For example, while many people may just throw it in the dishwasher, this is terrible for bamboo. Unlike steel or dishwasher safe plastics, wood does not handle high moisture or heat very well. Dishwashers typically go through cycles that involve scalding water and strong detergents. The drying process also evaporates a lot of water that creates a very humid environment inside the washer. The moisture and heat can and will eventually damage your wood. The bamboo fibers will split and warp. The best way to ensure your bamboo last is to first learn how to thoroughly clean it.

Cleaning Bamboo Kitchenware and Accessories

Extending your bamboo’ life is quite simple if you keep a couple things in mind. Always hand-wash your bamboo products with dish soap. Rinse it very well and let it air-dry before putting them away. The wood may seem like it has taken on a bit of water and warp. The water will soften the wood and make it easier to damage. Stronger concentrated soap may damage the protective coating of your bamboo.

You will also want to steer clear of harsh bleaches. These harmful chemicals will make your bamboo dry out too much and may leave some residue that gets into your food. If you think your bamboo products need serious cleaning, try some salt! Sprinkle it on the surface and scrub with half a lemon. This will act as a defoliator and will remove all dirty particles.
