How To Take Care of Your Bamboo Products

Here at Machika, we are big fans of eco-friendly products. When designing our products, we strive to make them with the most natural and safe materials possible. This is why most of our products have bamboo on them. Bamboo is a durable and sustainable resource that is biodegradable and antimicrobial. It’s non-porous composition makes it one of the best materials for kitchen products. Here are a few tips and tricks to maintain your bamboo products looking naturally beautiful.

The DOs

Extending your bamboo’ life is quite simple if you keep these things in mind. Always hand-wash your bamboo products with dish soap. Rinse it very well and let it air-dry before putting them away. Avoid putting your products in the dishwasher. The heat and intensity of the water/detergent will, in the long run, warp or crack your bamboo.

Buy some bamboo oil! Once a month, try to lubricate your bamboo products to keep them looking shiny and new. Some alternatives are coconut oil, food-grade mineral oil or even beeswax. Watch out for harmful chemicals. As we mentioned before, bamboo is naturally anti-bacterial. This means there is no need for harsh cleaning or maintenance products.

The DONTs

Do not let your bamboo products soak in water for long periods of time. The water will soften the wood, risking warping. Instead, gently scrape off any food or dirt before cleaning with water and soap.

Steer away from harsh bleaches. These harmful chemicals will make your bamboo dry out. If you think your bamboo products need serious cleaning, try some salt! Sprinkle it on the surface and scrub with half a lemon. This will act as an defoliator and will remove all dirty particles. Then, simply rinse with water and let dry.

The Bottom Line

Switching to bamboo utensils is the best long-term investment you could make. Bamboo is extremely durable so you can feel free to cut, chop and serve without a single worry. It is affordable and will make your kitchen look stunning. There are no downsides to bamboo. Take care of it and it will last you a lifetime.
